Those of you who started running with 12-13 min/miles or slower, how long did it take you to increase your speed?
Main Post:
I've only been running for about 3 months. My first day out I couldn't run a single mile. Just last Sunday, I ran/walked my first half marathon. I feel like I wasn't fully prepared to run the Marathon, but I didn't want to see my $50 go to waste. Right now, and for the rest of the summer, I think I'm going to cut back on training and just focus on building a better base.
I run 2-3 miles comfortably at a 12min pace, and as I increase distance my pace slows down to around 13min. I've been running about 3-4 times/week. How long did it take you guys to notice an increase in your pace and distance?? What is a good base for someone like me (5'10, 230, 24yrs old) to have? How many miles/week should I maintain before I start half-marathon training again for some fall races?
Thanks in advance for any advice, people! I didn't reach my goal time in the half last weekend, so I'm really motivated to kick its ass this fall! Looking to shave 30 minutes+ off my time. Want to finish in under 2:45!
TL;DR: How long did you run before your pace increased? What is a good base to build up to before starting half-marathon training?
EDIT Thanks for all the responses. I'm a teacher so I don't have much time to log on in the middle of the day. I'll will look through these once the day let's out and respond to you all more individually then. I'm sure there is a ton of good advice and encouragement in this thread. Keep it coming! Big ups to you all!
Top Comment: As I run farther, my pace on my longest runs remains about the same: 10-10:30 per mile. But if you look at my paces at a constant distance, say 3 miles, that pace has improved dramatically over the last 5 months; from about 9:20 per mile to 7:50 per mile. My 5 mile has gone from 10:15 per mile to 9:00 per mile. To run faster, you want to run farther. To run farther, you want to run slower.
Any tips/goals for Monday's 12 minute run for distance?

Hey guys, I'm a 17 yo ex- cross country runner and my friend and I are planning to run the Boston marathon in the future. I have my first half marathon in June and my (pretty ambitious) goal is sub 1:25. Do you think I can get that time? If so, what kind of tips do you guys have for me to be able to stay under 6:30 pace? If not, what things can I improve? And finally, do you think a sub 3 hour marathon is an attainable goal for me to have? Thanks in advance for your input.
Top Comment: What effort level was this run for you? Even if this was on the faster side of moderate I'd say you'd easily crush a 1:25 given that another 1.08 miles at the same pace would already get you a sub-1:30.

Top Comment: I’m running a similar system with a 3060ti. Managing 55-70 fps on medium and balanced dlss. No Major bugs or crashes in my first 5 hours so far. Not the exact answer you’re looking for but hopefully it helps some.
Trying to run Marvel Rivals gives the error "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument." despite having Direct X 12 enabled.

I have an Intel UHD 770 gpu with the 32.0.101.6325 driver from intel's website and windows 10 x64 and intel i7 13700 cpu
Top Comment: Check the game specs. It won't run on most igpus so you're out of luck It requires dx12 ultimate which is your Intel UHD doesn't have

Possible Solution to the DirectX-12 Dilemna
Main Post:
Looking for a fix to the whole "not compatible with DirectX-12" thing? I've never known much about computers but I did some digging.
First, try to update your Drivers. Google that because it's easy. If that doesn't work, update your computer. Reset it. Still doesn't work, continue reading.
You may have to accept your GPU is too old, but you might as well consider the following beforehand.
Open Task Manager, go to Performance, GPU 0, and it says DirectX Version at the bottom. If it's anything lower than 12, update your computer. I think. Or google how to get it to 12. If it IS 12, keep Task Manager open and keep reading.
Disclaimer: I have little knowledge of computers and this research has enlightened me on how some stuff works, but this could very well be useless so don't kill me if this does nothing to help you.
First off, even if I'm right, this might help a very small amount of people or none at all, might even be a waste of time.
- Your driver doesn't support DirectX-12 API
So?
- Get a new driver
My friend has an Intel Graphics Driver, so if you have anything else you'll have to do research on your own. On Intel's website; "Starting with driver 15.40.44.5107 applications that run exclusively on DirectX* 12 API no longer work..."
So it makes sense to assume you'd need a driver that was before 15.40.44.5107, right? Yours is probably something starting with 30 or 31. You can check- reopen Task Manager and it says Driver Version at the bottom. This is where I might be completely incorrect. MAYBE, if you download an older version of your Intel driver, Marvel Rivals could work?
Press the Windows key and type and go to System Information. Processor should say something like Intel i#-blahblah, or mention which generation it is. If yours is generation 10 or the first two blahblah digits are 10, I think you can't do this, and your GPU truly isn't compatible. At least, my friend couldn't.
Basically on intel's website you can download older versions of drivers, but the oldest version available depends on which processor you have. Gen 10 only goes down to 31.0.101.2121 while I think Gen 4 and 5 go down to 15.40.42.5063.
Sooo if you had a Gen 4 or 5 processer, maybe you could download that older driver, maybe need to manually reinstall DirectX-12, and maybe Marvel Rivals would work????
If this doesn't work or you die I take zero responsibility, you follow my instructions through free will, buddy.
Another possible cause is something I found someone say: "apparently........there's feature sets to UE5 that require a specific build of windows 10/11, that build is based on hardware allegedly. When the issue occurs windows doesn't know what error message to give so it gives a generic dx 12 prompt."
ALSO! Some guy said to try downloading or updating your NVIDIA software, so I'd say to try that out too.
Good luck to all of you brave soldiers trying to play marvelwatch overrivals. I hope they fix their game soon.
Edits: Updating on new information. hopefully this helps you fix the direct12 error for marvel rivals
Top Comment: Bruh Not a good look, wasted a whole day trying already... Marvelwatch overrivals, though - it cracked me up lmao. I guess I'll just wait for the devs to do the hard work.
